who wants to make boring old barbera when you could be making pignatello!
yes, you gotta love the italians. some of the varieties have synonym after synonym and Barbera has many.
call it what you will, it’s a lovely wine.
this one is grown by james sweetapple of cargo road vineyards fame out on the western side of orange near mount canobolas.
james regularly goes tripping around Italy looking for viticultural inspiration and about 10 years ago new he planted barbera.
we have been patiently waiting and watching his progress and in 2017 we made a trial batch for club members to enjoy.
it’s a wine very true to its italian roots.
lightly coloured with high acidity and notable tannins.
it will settle over time in the bottle or pair up well while young with foods dripping with melted mozzarella cheese!
