Lambrusco, Lambrusco, Lambrusco.
I like Lambrusco. Its cold, red and fun. The thing is in my experience Australian winemakers don’t respect it. If a good batch of grapes turn up they don’t “waste” it on the Lambrusco that they intend to sell for $5 a bottle.
At Piggs Peake we use quality fruit to make our Lambrusco styles and it shows in the wine. There are hints of musk sticks mixed in with red berries and a lovely sweet palate which finishes drier due to the higher levels of acid and tannin.
It’s a wine style for immediate consumption and really was just made as a drink, but it does work nicely with an anti-pasto plate.
