Feral pig is one of the most intriguing wines in the current piggs peake line up. Theres two grapes in the bottle. Saperavi and lagrein. So, it’s already a bit left field. Saperavi is a grape ancestrally from Georgia and lagrein is from the far north east of Italy. Saperavi is a deeply coloured wine. The name itself means something like clothing dye or paint in Georgian. It’s also famous for its big tannin structure. Lagrein is a deep wine with a plush mouthfeel and big colour. Perfect for taming the saperavi down without overly changing it. Together, they make a powerful, no nonsense big red. Something to drink in the dead of winter with a slow cooked tough cut like beef cheeks.
