Description

When a grape grower called me and asked if I wanted to buy some sagrantino grapes, I had to google if it was a red or a white. I think when I said yes to the purchase, I still thought it was a white. As I did my investigations I discovered it was a red. Italian actually, more specifically from umbria, where it had a history of making communion wine. A friend of mine was in umbria at the time so I asked him to make some enquiries. It turns out that this is potentially one of the most tannic grapes on the planet. As a result, marc and I devised a cunning plan to avoid tannin extraction on this beastie. The end result is a wine that is, well tannic. That was always gunna happen. But, we kept it all in check. So, its just a well structured firm wine. Try it with a lamb roast so those tannins have something to work on.
