Breaking News 30/5/2020
After the craziest year of my life time there are signs of some sort of return to normal. The fires have gone out. The floods have subsided (you’d forgotten about the floods a few months ago hadn’t you). The curve has flattened. In two days time tourism returns to NSW and from all signs everyone is looking forward to having a trip away. As restrictions are lifting larger gatherings are being allowed.
As of June 1 we can have 50 people at a time in the winery doing tastings and 50 people at Yellow Billy dining. Groups of more than 10 are not allowed in either venue. Larger groups must book individually as smaller groups and not “mingle” during the dining or tasting experience. We are all well aware of how silly this seems, but there is a much bigger picture here and we are doing all we can to comply with government directives and guidelines while also assessing risks to customers and staff and trying to make decisions in everyone’s best interests.
Yellow Billy is re-opening on Friday, June 5. While its great to have the ability to host people again, please note that 50 is a small number of people compared to the numbers that piggs peake and Yellow Billy are used to seeing.
So, a few tips.
Make a booking both for tastings and dining (just contact the winery or Yellow Billy in any manner).
Be extremely punctual.
People not tasting and not dining are included in the 50 (that includes minors) so some venues will have a hard nosed stance to people who are not participating as their ability to trade is already greatly compromised.
My biggest tip is come to the Hunter mid week. Wrangle a mid week get away and avoid the hassles of crowds in these crazy times. You will have a more carefree trip. Hopefully we will see continued easing of restrictions and a return to larger groups once more being allowed into both venues and of course a resumption of weddings, parties etc.
We are all very excited about having you come up next week. This week we are allowed to have 10 customers in the winery so we are honing our skills and getting ready for a big long weekend. Please note, by my calculations half the people who come to the Hunter on the long weekend will be standing outside of restaurants and tasting rooms due to restrictions on numbers.
Its a simple numbers game with only 50 in each venue. Our accommodation venues can hold twice that number and reports are that we are at 100%. So, please, be patient with us all across the Valley. Plan where you are going to go.
Understand that you wont just “pop in” to somewhere. Either have a restaurant booking or a plan of what you are going to eat and drink while you are here.
Factor in a push bike ride, a bushwalk, an afternoon siesta or reading of a book or some experience that doesn’t rely on the Hunters infrastructure which will be overloaded.
We are all looking forward to welcoming you back. See you all very soon.

Visit us at the winery
Piggs Peake conducts sales and tastings of the wines produced in our winery between 10am and 5pm, 7 days a week.
The people pouring the wines are often the people who make the wines, so rare insights into the process are on offer.
The range is extensive, so plan to be at the winery for 60-90 minutes when you come in.
Yellow Billy Restaurant is right next door and tasting plates and meat and cheese platters can be arranged to enhance the experience.
Piggs Peake can get very busy, so we advise contacting us in advance so that we can help you find when the best time to visit is or to have a staff member allocated to you for your tasting.
See below for our contact information, or fill in our booking form and one of our staff will be in touch to arrange your visit.
